While this is no surprise, it’s extremely common for people to start their new year’s resolutions off strong and then fall off track within a month or two. In order to reach your fitness goals, it’s important to incorporate regular activity into your lifestyle. Before you purchase an expensive gym membership that you probably won’t use, consider implementing daily outdoor activities in your routine to get your body moving.
Go for a Daily Walk
Start off by setting smaller and more manageable fitness goals. For example, go for a 15-30 minute walk every single day. Set your alarm a little bit earlier and go for a walk before work. If your mornings are already very hectic, go for a walk in the evening to decompress from the day. The hardest part is getting up and forcing yourself to do it. Doing yoga outdoors is great because being surrounded by nature is proven to reduce stress and boost relaxation. Not only will this get your body moving, it will also put your mind at ease.
Play Outside with Your Kids & Pets
The reason that many of us struggle to keep up with our fitness goals is because we are so busy trying to take care of our families. While this is totally valid, it’s important that you make a point to remain active. Plan weekend trips that involve physical activity such as skiing, swimming, hiking, canoeing etc. If your children play competitive sports, volunteer to help during practice. Also, if your kids are playing tag or running around at the park, always join in.
