Outdoor Spring Family Getaways on a Budget
Family getaways create some of the best memories, but often come with a hefty price tag. You want to disconnect, spend some time outdoors and enjoy quality family time – but you are on a tight budget. While many parents think they must go to Disney, Paris or a tropical island to have a good time, there are plenty of more affordable options for your spring family getaway.
Take a Road Trip
There is nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned family road trip! While the thought of being crammed into a car for a long ride might not seem desirable, try and use this as an opportunity to bond and spend quality time with one another. Map out your destinations and consider setting up camp a few nights to save some extra cash. Prepare some road trip games before you go (Pinterest is great for this!) to keep the kids entertained! While trips like this might not seem glamorous, they can often be the ones that create the best memories.
Rent a Family Cabin
If you’re looking for a step-up from traditional camping, rent a family cabin for a quick getaway. Stay for a long weekend or if you can budget for it, take an entire week off. Venturing out of town and living off the grid for a bit can be refreshing. Use this time to reconnect with the outdoors by going for hikes, bike rides, fishing trips etc. You won’t regret it!
Tour a Neighboring City
You don’t always have to travel halfway around the world for new experiences. Chances are there are plenty of tourist-y things you haven’t done that are close to home. Take a short trip to a neighburing town and hit up art galleries, museums, historical sites, restaurants and any other local attractions.
Visit Friends and Family
Not only does this option allow you to visit loved ones, it also means you can save some money on accommodations. While some might not consider this a true vacation – there are certainly some perks! If your friends and family are willing, they might even offer to watch the kids for a night allowing you to have a night to yourself.
Go to a National Park
Not only are national parks a great place to enjoy nature…they are also inexpensive! Famous national parks such as Yosemite
and the Grand Canyon
are great, but if those aren’t close by, don’t sweat it – there are over 60 national parks across the country! Do a little bit of research and find out which ones are near you. Your family will get to see wildlife, enjoy the outdoors and get some great exercise, too!
